Rain didn't dampen spirits
Letters
Editor: On behalf of the Ohel Ya'akov Community Kollel of Greater
Vancouver, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the
people who so bravely did not allow the weather to dampen their
community spirit and attended our Day of Unity celebrations on Labor
Day, Sept. 2 at Prospect Point in Stanley Park.
Even though the day started out with a downpour, the afternoon was
lovely and all 400 people really enjoyed themselves. They were glad
they had made the effort to share in the festivities.
I would also like to offer utmost thanks to the Shafran families
for sponsoring this event, in memory of their parents, Dave and
Lil Shafran.
As well, the 28 community organizations and synagogues who were
supporters of this event can be proud of the turn-out and we sincerely
thank them for agreeing to get behind this community endeavor. Without
the assistance from the Jewish Western Bulletin and all the
community organizations and synagogues in publicizing this event,
we know that the turn-out would have been very small indeed. We
appreciate all the work of all the volunteers who helped us in this.
The raffle winner at the event was Jose Heffes of Richmond. He has
won a Super Vibrating Body Massager, donated by Relaxus Products
Ltd., valued at more than $150. Thanks to Ari Schwartz for the great
prize.
The Day of Unity 2002 really showed us all that when we work together,
we truly are an amazing, strong and diverse community.
Warm regards, and let's hope next year is a record-breaker sunny
day.
Rabbi Shmueli Yeshayahu
