Celebrating 80 years ...
For years, the Jewish Western Bulletin ran a record of how many weeks three Moscow Jews were imprisoned in the Soviet Union: Vladimir Slepak, Ida Nudel and Anatoly Sharansky. As of the Oct. 1, 1981, issue, these prisoners had spent 174, 174 and 172 weeks, respectively, in prison. Each Gulag Record included a request for JWB readers to write to a specific prisoner, as well as Western leaders.
