Mysterious family ties
Two Jewish actresses form part of a talented cast.
CYNTHIA RAMSAY SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH BULLETIN
There are some secrets better left alone. Then there are those
worth the price of admission to find out. The mystery in The
Last Adam is compelling and, luckily for those who haven't seen
it yet, the play's run at the Waterfront Theatre has been extended
to Oct. 19.
The Last Adam focuses on the Leones, an Italian family living
in Montreal. The family lost a son 27 years ago and his surviving
twin's investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding
the death leads to more tragedy.
Despite its sombre conclusion, The Last Adam is an entertaining
story about family to which most people will relate. Two members
of the Jewish community Sarah J. Edmondson and Iris Paluly
are part of a high-quality cast that work well together.
And the play is well written, although there is liberal use of coarse
language and there is some anti-French dialogue that, despite the
Montreal setting, seems out of place.
The Last Adam is presented by Primavera Productions in association
with Savage God. It plays daily (except on Monday), 8 p.m., at the
Waterfront Theatre, 1410 Cartwright St., on Granville Island. Tickets
are $19-$24. Call 604-257-0366.
