Celebrating 80 years ...
Arnold Barkoff, former chair of the Community Fund and Council, and Steve Drysdale, the first executive director of the newly formed Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, were among the community leaders who would attend the Dec. 1, 1986, meeting to formally approve the merger of the Jewish Community Fund and Council with the United Jewish Appeal. The story was covered in the Nov. 20, 1986, issue of the Jewish Western Bulletin.
The JFGV joined “more than 200 such federated community structures throughout North America and overseas,” stated the article. “Vancouver becomes the third largest federation in Canada and a vital member of the Council of Jewish Federations, which services local communities throughout North America in areas of leadership development, campaign planning, long-range and strategic planning, budgeting and allocations.”
At the Dec. 1 meeting, “nominations for the 42-member board of directors [were to] be voted upon with election of officers and executive committee members.”
