Auction counters child abuse
Linda Dayan Frimer's artwork helps raise awareness through the
Internet.
Barry Corrin, executive director of the Parent Support Services
Society of B.C. (PSS), said that popular local Jewish artist Linda
Dayan Frimer has donated some of her work in order to help raise
money for his organization.
Frimer has contributed thousands of posters produced from her painting
entitled "The Presence," with the words "No One Stands
Alone" and the PSS information printed on the bottom. The posters
will be distributed to social service agencies, government offices,
doctors and other referring professionals.
Frimer has also donated an original of one of her favorite paintings,
"Buttercup," to be sold at the PSS's first annual online
auction.
The PSS has a 27-year history of supporting children and parents
while preventing child abuse. The funds raised from the auction
will be used for child care and transportation subsidies for low-income
parents.
"The society is committed to removing the financial obstacles
that often prevent low-income parents from accessing the services
they need," said Corrin. "I hope that people will take
a look to see Linda's painting and poster as well as the other donations
that are available [in the auction]."
Some of the other items include Vancouver Canucks tickets, island
getaways, restaurant gift certificates and jewelry.
The auction is being held throughout the month of November. Bids
can be placed online at www.gobid.ca, or by going to the PSS Web
site www.parentsupportbc.ca.
