Doing for others is what's important
Letters
Editor: I am a Holocaust survivor and I have been asked many times
how I survived this terrible experience. I say that I am blessed
with a good sense of humor, acquired from my father.
I was recently honored for 50 years of volunteer community service
on May 4 at Beth Israel Synagogue. I have been using my ability
to speak several languages to help communicate with many Alzheimer's
and other patients who are best able to converse in their native
languages.
I have done much of this volunteer work over the years at various
hospitals, the Kerrisdale Community Centre and the Louis Brier Home
and Hospital.
I cannot remember when I was so emotionally touched or when I had
such a beautiful experience in my lifetime.
What you do for others should be the most important thing in one's
life.
