All God's creations are holy
Letters
Editor: I am a non-Orthodox person and I viewed Trembling Before
G-d with interest. How could a frum, gay man or woman reconcile
him- or herself to being observant while receiving so little community
support?
Rabbi Ross Singer appeals for compassion from his Orthodox colleagues
and urges them to see this film. He notes that gays and lesbians
in the Orthodox community deserve compassion because they carry
a great burden. I see something else, as well. These Jews deserve
our respect. It takes great courage to be true to oneself amid tremendous
opposition opposition that many interpret and believe as
coming straight from God. Some of us tremble before God on these
issues. I also think we can stand in awe of the spiritual strength
of these individuals for their honesty and willingness to tell stories
about themselves. In them, we can see the tenacity of the Jewish
spirit endeavoring to see the holiness of all of God's creations.
