It's time for a shmooze

BAILA LAZARUS EDITOR

From the makers of Jewish Love Potion and Aviva Las Vegas comes the latest in party fun for British Columbia's Jewish singles. This time, Michael Horowitz and Rory Richards are moving their merrymaking machinery to a large warehouse space on West Second Avenue and calling it Club Shmooze.

"The momentum of Jewish Love Potion and Aviva Las Vegas has sparked this studio concept for the upcoming party," said Horowitz, adding that the same DJ from Jewish Love Potion will spin and 300 guests are expected to attend.

"Club Shmooze is a new concept and style," Horowitz continued. "Every Michael and Rory party should be a new experience for those who come and this is what we are striving for."

Richards said she and Horowitz have hosted focus groups of Vancouverites asking them what they would like to experience at a Jewish party and have asked for constructive criticism of other events, incorporating the feedback into their upcoming parties.

"Our events have been and will continue to be cool, creative and out of the box," said Richards. "The benefit in breaking the norm is that you attract new people. Attracting new people to the Jewish singles scene is important and is the number one request from all the people we have spoken to."

Responding to the rumors that she and Horowitz are the Jewish community's hottest twosome, Richards stated emphatically that they are not a couple
"It is a common mistake," said Richards. "Dr. Michael is very single and [I am] taking time out from dating for a while."

As if to attest to the success of past events, two partygoers who met at Jewish Love Potion have become engaged. Louis Thaw, who is featured in the Jewish Film Festival movie Match Made in Seven, and Brina Levitt have announced a marriage date of May 25, 2003, one year from the date of Club Shmooze.

Club Shmooze takes place Saturday, May 25, 8:30 p.m., at Leap Studio, 1675 West 2nd Ave. The $15 entry includes your first drink. For more information, or to be added to Michael and Rory's party list, contact [email protected].
