Celebrating 80 years ...JWB 1980_reach for the Top

The cutline of this celebratory photograph from the March 6, 1980, issue of the Jewish Western Bulletin began: “MLA Peter Hyndman (left) presents a $200 cheque to Zone 11 champs in Reach for the Top television series. Matching prize funds are presented by B.C. Dairy Foundation general manager Bill Inglis. Winning team members from Eric Hamber High School are, left to right, George Panagopoulos, Neil Chisholm, David Freedman and Ethan Minovitz.”

The Bulletin covered several Reach for the Top competitions over the years, and many young adults made the community proud with their performance. In 1977, the program made the cover for a less auspicious reason: complaints were filed by Eric Hamber against CBC for its decision to tape the semi-finals on Kol Nidre.
