Editor: We are living in troubling times. Anti-Semitism is spiralling out of control around the globe, in some places to levels not seen since the Second World War, and Israel is now facing the greatest opposition since its inception.
As members of the Jewish community in Canada, we have a duty – to those who have suffered in the past as well as to future generations – to ensure that we speak out wherever we see injustice or unfairness. There is now an easy way for you to influence events. Join the Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy-Public Affairs Committee (CIJA-PAC).

CIJA-PAC allows Canadian Jews and all those who support Israel to speak with a strong, effective voice. As a member of CIJA-PAC, you will be equipped to advocate effectively on behalf of the Jewish community and Israel. We will ask for your input on critical issues so that you have a say. You will also receive invitations to special briefings and other benefits.

Even if you do not want to participate as an advocate, your membership is crucial. Numbers count. We need to sign up as many members as we possibly can to be strong and be sure our voices are heard.

What have CIJA-PAC members been involved in so far?

• Three conference call briefings with top Israeli and Canadian Jewish officials on the case of the security fence before The Hague (Ambassador Allan Baker, Gideon Meir, Marc Gold and a briefing on current Middle East issues by Jerusalem Post editor-in-chief Bret Stephens).

• Two members-only monthly polls on key issues shared with major Jewish organizations such as Canada-Israel Committee, Canadian Jewish Congress and federations.

• Access to the International Conference on Global Anti-Semitism in Montreal.

What is planned for CIJA-PAC members? Among the initiatives are online education on anti-Semitism and Israel advocacy; a how-to guide on getting involved in the political process; and more members-only conference calls with experts on issues critical to Israel and Jews in Canada.

Joining CIJA-PAC is simple. You can call 877-CIJA-333 anytime to leave a message or you may go online to the "Join CIJA-PAC" page of our Web site, www.cija.ca or www.cija.ca/eng/ aboutcijaPac_eng.cfm. It costs $18 (minimum non-receiptable donation) and all members receive a Roots discount card good for 20 per cent off all regular purchases.
