Communist crimes
Letters
Editor: Baila Lazarus writes in the Bulletin's Feb. 8 issue
about Arthur Miller. While I do not dispute the fact that he is
a great playwright, I take exception to the statement that he had
the same high moral fibre as the characters of his plays. And that
is because he refused to squeal on his communist friends before
the House Un-American Activities Committee.
Just as we hold members of the Nazi party responsible for the crimes
of Nazism, regardless of whether they personally have blood on their
hands, so we must hold members of the Communist party co-responsible
for the crimes of communism. Crime against humanity is a crime against
humanity. It is true that communists murdered proportionately fewer
Jews than the Nazis, but is this supposed to be an extenuating circumstance?
I think not. If Arthur Miller had a high moral fibre, he wouldn't
want to have communist friends.
