Celebrating 80 years ...
A May 27, 1960, cover story announced that the resignation of Jewish Western Bulletin editor and publisher Abe Arnold had been “accepted with great regret” by the Jewish Community Council executive, which ran the Bulletin. Arnold had “submitted his resignation to accept an appointment in Montreal as publicity director of the Federation of Jewish Community Services and the Combined Jewish Appeal.” The Bulletin also lost his wife, Bertha Arnold, who was in charge of advertising and circulation.
The search for a replacement(s) began immediately and the July 8, 1960, of the Bulletin announced the appointment of Winnipeg journalist Sam Kaplan as the new publisher and editor of the paper. He and his wife, Mona, soon owned the paper outright – for almost 40 years.
