Advice can save lives
Letters
Editor: President Jacques Chirac of France is angry with Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel because the latter recommended French
Jews exit France for Israel. The reasons for the recommendation
are the ever-increasing anti-Semitism and destruction of Jewish
values that is proceeding apace in France.
Had the Jews of France and other European countries been given similar
advice in the 1930s and had they heeded such advice and emigrated
while they could, one can only imagine the millions of Jewish lives
that would have been saved from the scourge of the Holocaust.
Undoubtedly Chirac is quite aware of French complicity in the Second
World War; he should be taking vigorous action against anti-Semitism
instead of criticizing a potential savior of his country's Jewish
souls.
