A few of their favorite things

With all the warm weather we've been having lately, it's not hard
to picture spring, just around the corner ... time for Vancouverites
to come out of hibernation and head for all the spots they love
best. With that in mind, we asked a few community members to share
some of their favorite things.

What is your favorite place to eat? Omnitsky's for a spring
picnic.
What is your favorite place to be in the outdoors? Helliwell
Park on Hornby Island. It's a beautiful provincial park with bluffs
and an ancient forest. It's my favorite place on Earth.
What is your favorite place to let loose/party? My studio.
What is your favorite place to get a last-minute gift for someone?
Pottery from Circle Craft Market on Granville Island.
What is your favorite place for a family getaway? Our cottage
on Hornby Island.
What's the funniest Purim prank someone has pulled on you or
one that you pulled on someone? My husband dressing up as a
gorilla.
When/where was the longest seder you've ever been to? At
our own home, two years ago. It went well into the midnight hour.

What is your favorite place to eat? Kaplan's soft bagels
on Sunday morning.
What is your favorite place to be in the outdoors? Back country
skiing in British Columbia.
What is your favorite place to let loose/party? The Commodore
Ballroom.
What is your favorite place to get a last-minute gift for someone?
Book Warehouse.
What is your favorite place for a family getaway? Bowen Island.
What's the funniest Purim prank someone has pulled on you or
one that you pulled on someone? No Purim prank is a good Purim
prank.
When/where was the longest seder you've ever been to? At
my paternal grandfather's house when I was seven. It lasted somewhere
between three hours and three months.

What is your favorite place to eat? My wife and I practise
kashrut and we're kind of limited for choices in Vancouver. I'd
have to say my place (Nava's).
What is your favorite place to be in the outdoors? I love
to ski at Whistler/Blackcomb.
What is your favorite place to let loose/party? Elwood's
on Broadway. It's small, quaint and homey.
What is your favorite place to get a last-minute gift for someone?
Well, that would always be for my wife! Holt Renfrew is always good
for that.
What is your favorite place for a family getaway? Israel.
Where is your favorite place to see performing arts? I like
the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
When/where was the longest seder you've ever been to? Last year
at Schara Tzedeck. It dragged on and on.

What is your favorite place to be in the outdoors? Hiking
in Lynn Valley.
What is your favorite place to let loose/party? At a Dr.
Michael event where the martinis are the Jewciest in town!
What is your favorite place to get a last-minute gift for someone?
The shops on South Granville.
What is your favorite place for a family getaway? Seattle
or Whistler.
What's the funniest Purim prank someone has pulled on you or
one that you pulled on someone? When I was a kid someone told
me that it was chocolate in the hamantashen, but it was really prunes.
It completely ruined my experience.
When/where was the longest seder you've ever been to? Passover
2003 at Rabbi Lipa Dubrowsky's. It went until 2:30 a.m. We didn't
even get our soup until 12:15 a.m.

the ones I've been to have been short and sweet and lots of fun.

Favorite place to eat: My home.
Favorite place to experience the outdoors: Cathy and I love
to kayak. We love being on the water, being out there with nature
where no phones are ringing. We also like cross-country skiing.
Favorite place to buy a last-minute gift: That's easy. The
Temple Sholom gift shop.
Favorite getaway: Hawaii or Israel. Hawaii is close and the
weather is usually great. And Israel, we just love being there as
a family.
Funniest Purim prank: I can't think of any pranks, but I
can think of a lot of great programs. And we have a whole gallery
here of costumes we've worn over the years, from Elvis to Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles.
What is the longest seder in which you've ever participated:
Probably all of the ones I've conducted year after year.
