Thank you for support

Letters

Editor: I wanted to say a big thank you to this wonderful Jewish community on behalf of the students of Vancouver Talmud Torah high school.

The warm and sympathetic response to the VTTHS students' effort was tremendous. It was an amazing lesson for the students to learn what "kol Yisrael arevim zeh lazeh" is all about.

The committed students of VTTHS worked hard at the Shop Israel event at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, trying to sell the T-shirts they made for Oren Almog, the 10-year-old Israeli boy who lost his vision from the suicide bombing last October in Haifa.

The support was overwhelming. Many people bought shirts, some just gave generous donations and many thanked and praised the students for their effort. I even received a phone call from an opthalmologist's wife, living in Vancouver, asking if her husband can be of any help to Oren.

This wonderful combined support is a great role model for our children. You showed the next generation what community is all about.

Another big thank you to the students, staff and office administration of the VTT elementary school for their heart-warming support (you raised over $1,000!) for Oren. Everybody at the school helped in so many different ways.

Thank you Gerry Zipursky and Brian Silverberg for allowing us to sell the shirts at the JCC (at the last minute).

Once we have finished collecting the money, I will let you all know the final grand total. Thank you!

Shoshana Burton
