More consideration needed
Letters
Editor: Referring to the letter by Marian Dewitt ("Discrimination
at hotel," Bulletin, Dec. 6), I was appalled and thoroughly
dismayed that some patrons in a public establishment serving guests
of all ages complained that they felt like they were in an old folks
home, showing disregard for their elders when a group of four seniors
in wheelchairs appeared to be seated with reservations for a luncheon.
The general manager of the Sylvia Hotel showed poor judgment and
distinct discrimination when, without an apology to the senior group,
offered an unoccupied section of the hotel, away from the not-so-old
patrons. I have been a senior for many years, requiring the assistance
of a walker, as do many seniors, and also the necessary comfort
of a wheelchair. With these disabilities, seniors have been welcomed
and have never encountered such discrimination and disrespect as
shown by the general manager of the Sylvia Hotel on Sept. 30.
Respect and kind consideration are acknowledgments that the blessing
of becoming old is in the future of all human beings.
