Celebrating 80 years ...

This year marks the 26th annual Cherie Smith JCCGV Jewish Book Festival. In the Nov. 15, 1984, issue of the Jewish Western Bulletin, a story on page 3 announced that poet Eli Mandel and playwright Beverley Simons were scheduled to “read from their highly acclaimed works at a Showcase of Canadian Jewish Writers evening, planned in tribute to Jewish Book Month.”

The free community event also featured a book display and sale. It was organized by several people, with Cherie Smith as chair.
