Chanukah gift baskets

Safeway, Dan-D Foods and B.C. Kosher team up.
KYLE BERGER REPORTER

Thanks to a joint effort between Dan-D Foods Ltd., B.C. Kosher and the Canada Safeway store at Oakridge mall, the supermarket is currently selling kosher Chanukah gift baskets.

The baskets are made up of 10 to 12 items that include products such as cashews, crackers and soy nuts and range in price from $18.95 to $39.99. Fruit can also be added to the baskets.

Kevin Merrick, manager of the Oakridge Safeway, said he is excited to sell the kosher baskets in his store.

"We have a very large Jewish clientele," he said. "It means that we can expand the variety of products that we do carry to serve the Jewish community better. We pride ourselves on having a larger kosher selection than most other mainstream stores."

Merrick said that if the baskets are successful, he would like to see them sold in other Safeway stores next year.

Dan-D Foods sells several kosher products and Harry Peterson, the company's supervisor and sales manager, said that if the Chanukah basket sells well, they will likely do similar projects for other Jewish holidays.
