Jewcy singles at Leap

BAILA LAZARUS EDITOR

Get out of the rainy November weather for an evening of dancing, chatting and shmoozing. Jewish singles from the Lower Mainland, Victoria, Seattle and Edmonton will converge on Leap studios next week for the party Jewcy. Michael and Rory Presents' fifth venture is subheaded with the attention-grabbing "We're the kids your rabbi warned you about."

"2002 has been an outstanding year for Vancouver's Jewish community. We've never been closer to each other and never have there been so many options for meeting other Jews in Vancouver," said Michael Horowitz, who is presenting the party with Rory Richards. "The Michael and Rory party train is full steam ahead. The momentum created by the support of our community has been tremendous.... What a strong finish to 2002 with Vancouver's Jewcy. This will whet the appetite of our community as we enter 2003. Return of The Jewish Love Potion is only months away."

Expanding on Horowitz's assessment, Richards added, "We are as committed as ever to making neutral Jewish space in Vancouver – no strings attached Jewish fun, a place where the only objective is to have a great time with young, like-minded individuals who just happen to be Jewish too.

"There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Jews who have moved to Vancouver from different places in recent years for their education, career, etc., and are not yet connected with Jewish culture in Vancouver. They are in their mid-20s and 30s and for a lot of those individuals this unique type of event is the point of least resistance back into Jewish culture.

Jewcy is billed as a "grassroots, independent and uninhibited dance party for all Jews with a passion for no strings attached, unadulterated fun and frolic." It takes place Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 p.m., at Leap Studios, 1675 West 2nd Ave. Entrance is $15 at the door.
