Celebrating 80 years ...
On a July Sunday in 1963, the “Jewish Community Auditorium became a miniature zoo ... as junior and tweener members moved in with their pets for the First Annual Pet Show.”
The July 12 Jewish Western Bulletin reported: “top prize in the show, for the best cared for specimen, was Jeff Davis’ two-year-old dog named Teddy. Margo Sinclair’s bird Pepper and Ruth Karmel’s pair of white ducks won the prizes for the best displayed animals in the fowl category.” Dianne Hirt’s cat, Petunia, won top prize in the cat category, while Elaine Klein’s Fluffy had the most unusual cat markings. Howard Blank’s Puffy won for the cat with the longest/oddest tail, Sandy Gray’s Tim for the shortest dog tail, Billy Zaitzow’s Cindy won for both the best displayed dog and the longest dog tail, Lois Larkins’ Peppy for the best trick, Elaine Smordin’s Timmy for saddest dog face and Karen Winfield’s Chips for the most unusual dog markings.
