Israel's not to blame
Letters
Editor: In the face of mounting worldwide anti-Semitism, the killing
of a father of six children in Toronto, the boycotting of Israeli
goods and the firing of Israeli university professors in England,
your persistence in giving coverage to the Canada-Palestine Support
network is difficult to understand.
Their blame of Israel for "a systematic violation of the Palestinian's
population basic human right to live free of military coercion and
violence" is a malicious distortion of the truth. The European
Union gave the Palestinian government 1.4 billion dollars to be
used to develop health and educational programs. The money was used
to buy arms and build Yasser Arafat's palatial estate. The Palestinians
could have had a country decades ago. Palestinians are the victims
of their own leaders who use and abuse them. There is no defence
for suicide bombing.
There are many examples of Israel's willingness to co-operate with
Palestinians. Why do you not report that Israel is treating Palestinians
in its hospitals and rehabilitation centres? To blame Israel for
the subjugation of women's rights is also ridiculous. There are
Arab women students in Israel's universities. They are not subjugated
and discriminated against as they are in Arab countries.
There are many people around the world who are being oppressed.
If the Canada-Palestine Support network is so concerned about human
rights, why are they silent about the brutal enslavement of children
that is going on in the Sudan? These people claim they are in support
of Israel. This is difficult to believe in the face of their continued
justification and defence of terrorism. They pay little attention
to the brutal, heartless and cruel treatment given to those Palestinians
who are calling for an end to the violence. If this group were really
sincere about helping the Palestinian people, they would be looking
at the facts and not attruibuting all the problems to Israel.
