A place for opposing views

Letters

Editor: Please accept my congratulations for your front-page editorial of July 5 ("Voices of our community"). At a time when we are faced with the imposed one-sided views of the Asper family publications, it is especially welcome to see journalistic integrity. My wife and I have increased respect for your newspaper; we applaud your courage and offer our support.

My own views are well known. I am, more than somewhat, a hawk, and my support for Israel is unequivocal. I am disgusted by the naked opportunism of Svend Robinson. Nevertheless, a newspaper is a place for opposing views to be aired, and censorship can never be acceptable. Even the Talmud accepts the possibility of differing opinions. May I remind your readers of the 1907 quote by Voltaire by S.G. Tallentyre: "I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it."
