Celebrating 80 years ...
It’s always nice to look back and see that goals have been achieved. In the Jan. 30, 1992, issue of the Jewish Western Bulletin, Burquest community, which had “expanded to nearly 100 families ... [was] in desperate need of a permanent building.”
Interviewed for the article was the president of the Burquest Jewish Community Association at the time, Ellen Freedman. She explained how monthly Friday evening services were being held at members’ homes, the community’s Hebrew school had grown to three classes and adult programming also was thriving.
Happily, Burquest did indeed find a permanent home, on Dewdney Trunk Road in Coquitlam, and has continued to be able to offer their entire community “a full Jewish life.”
