The squeaky wheel...

Editorial

At least one letter writer recently has suggested that the Bulletin has a policy of publishing letters to the editor that fit a particular political slant. Since there has been a raging debate in the letters pages recently, this might be a good time to explain our letters policy.

It’s fairly simple. We try to publish every letter we receive. We reserve the right to edit for clarity and brevity. We cannot publish anything that might cause us or the letter writer to be sued for libel. We are a community newspaper and so, we hope, our contents are appropriate for the mishpachah – the whole family.

If the paper is filled one week with one-sided opinions, that’s because that’s what came in the mailbag (or e-mail). The political slant of the letters provides us endless delight and stirs debate in our pages, among our readers and in our office. But it does not determine whether we print it or not.

If you don’t like what someone wrote in a letter to the editor, respond. We can’t print what you don’t send us.
