A Russian celebration

Violinist and singers join party at Peretz Centre.
CYNTHIA RAMSAY

The Most-Bridge Russian Jewish Seniors Society, a Russian-speaking group of Jewish seniors, held its annual Chanukah event on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Approximately 125 people came out to the Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture to see a short play about Chanukah's heroes, the Maccabees, hear some music and enjoy some holiday food. Performers included Zhanna Linskya, who sang several Jewish songs between the scenes of the play, which was acted by members of the seniors society. Young violinist Shaina Gurevich then took to the stage to perform two selections of music. She was followed by the Richmond Jewish Day School Choir, under the direction of Rowena Bridson, with pianist Victoria Smus.

The Most-Bridge Russian Jewish Seniors Society holds many events each year. It is always seeking new members – an annual membership is only $15 – and potential event sponsors. For more information, contact co-presidents Yuri Rubin at 604-736-0719 or Joseph Polisky at 604-266-0105, or Tamara Vergeli at 604-696-5091.
