Discrimination at hotel

Letters

Editor: Discrimination comes in many forms. During a luncheon outing on Sept. 30, I encountered discrimination against four seniors in wheelchairs.

In the last number of years, our seniors have enjoyed luncheons at the Sylvia Hotel in the main dining room. Upon arrival for our reservations on Sept. 30, we were advised that some patrons had complained and stated that they felt like they were in an "old folks home" and we were then told that our group would be seated in the empty cocktail lounge.

This was stated to us by the general manager of the hotel. No apologies were made. We advised them that we would not return to the Sylvia Hotel. The answer given was, "that's up to you." I am certain that none of our physically challenged, be they seniors or not, would wish to be treated this way.
